the 7th of February and the 38th Day of 2023. Today, I bring you the concluding part of the 7 POSITIVE THINGS THAT CAN BE NEGATIVE WHEN OVERDONE (Part two).
In the 1st part of this article, I shared with you the first 3 positive things that can be negative when over done which are:
1. HAVING IDEAS
2. MAKING FRIENDS
3. BEING OPTIMISTIC
We found out that as much as the above mentioned are positive activities to engage in, when overdone can be quite detrimental to your progress and livelihood.
Today, I bring you the remaining 4 being:
4. PLANNING – There is a saying that a goal without a plan is simply a wish. Dale Carnegie once said; an hour of planning can save you 10 hours of doing. Which presupposes that a year of planning can save you 10 years of doing but that is not necessarily the case. As much as planning is good and developing the skills and attitude of planning can greatly influence your outcome, nothing can replace execution.
A plan without proper execution is a waste of time and resources. So by all means plan, but don’t over do it. There is no such thing as a perfect plan, so planning, replanning and overplanning is only an indication of doubt and fear and not just being meticulous.
5. THINKING – Steve jobs said; “Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” Lao Tzu also said; “Stop thinking, and end your problems.” Between these 2 great minds, it is clear that thinking is good but when overdone can make it complex and problematic.
6. TALKING – Proverbs 17:28 (ESV) said even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. Can you imagine that?! By simply being silent, one is considered wise and intelligent. Talking is good but it is certainly one of those things that when overdone can be negative and detrimental to your image. Instead of just talking, learn to communicate, to ask intelligent questions, to establish connection and to engage in insightful dialogues. Let your words bring life and light.
7. TRUSTING – “You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if you don’t trust enough.” says Frank Crane. It is nearly impossible to live in this world without trusting yourself, someone or something. Without an appreciable level of trust, nothing substantial can be achieved in any endeavour. The challenge is with being overly trusting which sometimes can lead to disappointment, heartbreak and pain. Trust but verify, trust but follow up, trust but ask questions, trust but be curious.
This sums up the 7 positive things that can be negative when overdone. If you notice you are over doing any of these, stop, evaluate and take action to correct it immediately before you get hurt. I believe in you!!!
